Court reviews Lynne Spears’appeal, Sam Lutfi

Update March 12, Lynne Spears filed her opening brief and avoided a judge dismissing her appeal based on missing the deadline.

Update March 1, Monday: A representative for the Second District of the Court of Appeals says Lynne Spears has 15 days to respond or a default judgment will be entered and the appeal dismissed. Spears’previously sought and was granted an extension of time to file in early December. Her notice of appeal was lodged in mid August.

Update Feb. 28 evening Sam Lutfi’s counsel is the one asking to be relieved, not Lynne Spears, based on court docs now in possession. Lutfi’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, cites “a break down in the attorney-client relationship such that counsel is no longer able to effectively represent the client.” The next hearing is set for March 8 at the Los Angeles Superior Court before Judge Zaven V. Sinanian for a status conference set previous to the court of appeals’decision.

The 2nd Court of Appeals in Los Angeles notified Lynne Spears on Feb. 26 that her challenge of a lower court’s ruling involving Sam Lutif has been dismissed according to online court records.

Steve Dennis speaks via an email interview about his book, “Britney: Inside the Dream.” Dennis takes both Fair News Spears questions and to those of a bona fide Britney Spears fan who wishes anonymity.

Dennis is the recognized ghostwriter for Paul Burrell who published two books from his life of service to the Queen of England and to the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

You have a number of unnamed sources in your book. What was the most common reason people didn’t want to use their name?

Some sources are named, some not. Some people cannot be seen to be co-operating but they wanted to assist a compassionate and true portrait of Britney. I think there is a perception that if one co-operates with a biographer, it amounts to betrayal. Within that perception, people seek anonymity. Besides, it’s the information that counts, not the names. The phrase “a source said” has been devalued, I think, in journalism over the years but the authenticity of a source’s contribution can be found within the detail and insight.

The AP and LA Times have been stingy in sharing riveting new details from declarations filed at a Los Angeles Superior Courthouse this July stating Lynne Spears told numerous lies in her book, “Through the Storm, A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World.”

The declarations support Sam Lutfi’s lawsuit against Lynne filed last February for libel, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress as a result of what he calls Lynne’s lies and characterization of him.  Lutfi had been a frequent companion of her daughter Britney, until Lynne filed a declaration supporting of a restraining order against him in early 2008. Many of Lynne’s statements from that declaration were included in her book published later in the fall of 2008.
